Welcome Week 2017








Welcome Week at the George Washington University provides opportunities for students to connect, build relationships, learn about resources, and build a community at GW. Welcome Week events showcase the many resources GW has to offer for academic success and features opportunities for involvement at the Mount Vernon Campus, in the performing arts, sustainability activities, multicultural student services, international student activities, student organizations, and more.

Friday August 25th

VALOR Student Orientation: 3 - 4 pm, Location TBD

Learn the process of using your Veteran Affairs benefits here at GW to ensure that there are no hiccups down the road in the processing of your benefits. This session will answer most of your questions like: What is the BAH rate? What is the certification process like? When will my tuition bill be paid by the VA? How does the book stipend work? Do I need to apply for yellow ribbon every year? Please register in advance for this event.

Bed Bath & Beyond Pop Up Shop: 9 am - 6 pm, District House Basement Level 2

This annual event welcomes all new and returning students to campus with a variety of fun carnival games and activities, food, and prizes. Mandatory Sexual Violence Prevention Training: 12 pm - 6 pm, Marvin Center (800 21st Street, NW)

We know you are excited about coming to George Washington University, and we are excited to have you!  To help create a safe environment for all students, GW requires all incoming students to complete sexual and relationship violence prevention training. In the coming weeks, the TIX Office will email all incoming students instructions to complete an online training course through Campus Clarity called "Think About It" and attend an in-person workshop on campus. The online summer course and in-person workshops will help participants examine issues such as hooking up, substance abuse, sexual violence, consent, healthy relationships and GW policies and resources through a variety of interactive, realistic scenarios and guided self-reflection. Information about completing the online summer course before the August 21st deadline; attending a August 27th workshop; and, GW resources are available at https://haven.gwu.edu/mandatory-student-training. Students who do not complete the mandatory training will not be allowed to register for 2018 classes

The GW Residence Hall Association and the Mount Vernon Campus Events  will be hosting a pool party on the Mount Vernon Campus (MVC) to appeal to students who will be living on this campus for the next year! We want to foster a sense of community on the MVC as well as introduce the residents to the RHA and what we are all about. We will also be providing food, music, and plenty of photo opportunities to appeal to the resident body.

The GW Student Performance showcase will feature 15-20 GW student a cappella, theater, dance, comedy, and music groups taking the Lisner Auditorium stage. The groups will each showcase their unique skills and talents, allowing students to learn about the various performance opportunities available to them on campus. The Showcase is expected to last around 90 minutes and entrance is free.
