Welcome Week at the George Washington University provides opportunities for students to connect, build relationships, learn about resources, and build a community at GW.

With 30+ events over two weeks, Welcome Week showcases the many resources GW has to offer for academic success and features opportunities for involvement at the Mount Vernon Campus, in the performing arts, sustainability activities, multicultural student services, international student activities, student organizations, and more.

VALOR Student Orientation: 3 - 4 pm, Location TBD

Learn the process of using your Veteran Affairs benefits here at GW to ensure that there are no hiccups down the road in the processing of your benefits. This session will answer most of your questions like: What is the BAH rate? What is the certification process like? When will my tuition bill be paid by the VA? How does the book stipend work? Annual GW Legacy Family Welcome Brunch: 10 am - 12 pm, Alumni House (1918 F Street, NW)

The Office of Alumni Relations cordially invites you to join members of the GW Legacy family community for a brunch reception to welcome the class of 2020 legacy students. This reception, part of Welcome Week, will be held on the Sunday morning of Move-In weekend for all members of the GW legacy community. We hope that you will join us before starting classes or heading back to your hometown. This is a great opportunity to meet other students, parents and alumni whose GW pride runs in the family. There is no cost to attend but please register your attendance in advance.

ONE Vote Caravan at GW: 12 - 4 pm, University Yard

You're Invited to the White House! The ONE Vote White House bounce house, that is. The ONE Vote '16 caravan is coming to our campus and we want you to join us! The Caravan is a literal epicenter for social change where you'll watch a Virtual Reality film about a girl growing up in rural Tanzania and take action to let the Presidential candidates know that they need to have a plan to end extreme poverty before entering the White House. Once you've taken action on this issue yourself, you'll be able to enter our White House bounce house to enjoy a few bounces! Plus, stop by at 1 PM for a chance to meet with ONE Camapign staff and other special guests.

Interested in joining one of GW's more than 35 sport clubs? Ranging in levels of competition, these organizations span a diverse array of athletic activities which allow members to continue their passion for or find a passion in sport. Many club sport teams will be present during this tabling and information event providing details on how to tryout for and join their teams.

Wednesday August 31st

Blind Date With a Book: 11 am - 2 pm, Kogan Plaza

Do you like books? Do you want to help out a good cause? We will be selling donated books - $1 for paperbacks and $2 for hardcovers. But here’s the catch: you don’t know which book you’ll be getting! In true “blind date” fashion, the books will all be wrapped in plain paper with a few key words written on the front. You might get something you don’t expect, but it might be way more fun than you thought! We have books from lots of different genres, including mysteries, romances, fantasy, historical fiction - even some textbooks and comic books! You never know what you might find.

All the money raised from this event will be donated to the Washington Literacy Center, and any excess books will be donated to the Carpe Librum bookstore, run by the Turning the Page charity. So, if getting great books for a great price while helping out two great charities seems like your cup of tea, we’ll see you on August 31st!

That inspires our own weekly Well, our large group gathering. The Well is a time each week where we come together for prayer, worship, and instruction. It’s the central meeting for InterVarsity at GW and is designed to better equip us to share Jesus with others. We would love to have you join us every week. Freshman Day of Service and Convocation: 11 am, Charles E. Smith Center

Tomorrow, Together. Class of 2020, join together with faculty, staff, and student leaders at the Smith Center for Convocation, your academic welcome to GW, and then take part in Freshman Day of Service participating in direct service projects across the District of Columbia!

Freshmen will check in based on residence hall and head to the Smith Center for the Convocation Ceremony. Afterwards freshmen will depart on buses to service projects across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
