Who organizes and leads Adventure Bound?

Adventure Bound is planned by the staff in the Center for Student Engagement, including help from our student coordinator. We have over 40 trained TRAiLS Guides, certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and AED use. They lead the Adventure Bounds trips along with a GW faculty or staff member on every trip.

Are there any professional outfitters for Adventure Bound?

On trips like Whitewater and Ocean we hire professional outfitters to guide our various activities such as rafting, kayaking, and surfing.


Can I borrow gear?

Yes, we have various items that participants can borrow for their trips. These items include, but are not limited to, backpacking packs, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and headlamps. We will send out a google form closer to the date to collect information on anything you may want to borrow.

What if I’m concerned about financing the trip?

If you believe you may be in need of financial assistance to participate in Adventure Bound, we may have fee waivers available to students. For more information, please email [email protected].

Can I come for part of the trip?

No, unfortunately to maximize the first-year bonding experience, you must be available to attend the full length of the trip from August 17th to August 20th.


Do my parents, guardians, or guests have to wait until August 21st for the Family Programming?

No, Advdenture Bound families can attend Family Programming on Monday, August 19 from approximately 9 am to 2 pm. The material covered will be similar to that presented on August 21st. Family Programming registration (for 8/19 and 8/21) is available here. Families, prior to your arrival be sure to check out the Family Resource Module to learn about your student's academic journey and requirements, as well as find answers to other questions you have about life at GW such as how to pay your tuition, how the dining plan works, student support resources, FERPA, financial/student account information, and much more. Will Adventure Bound interfere with New Student Orientation?

No, Adventure Bound is a pre-orientation program that is meant to further enhance the start of your GW experience. We will end our program on Tuesday night so that on Wednesday, August 21st participants will be able to welcome their roommates and hallmates during first-year student move-in, as well as have time to continue getting settled before jumping into the New Student Orientation kick-off on Wednesday evening.


Will I move into my room for the fall semester? When do I move in?

Yes, you will move into your assigned residence hall room on Saturday, August 17th. Move-in information will be sent to your student email account. You will need to complete the online check-in at least 24 hours before your arrival to ensure your GWorld is active when you arrive.


When will I receive more information about housing?

Students will be notified of their housing assignment in June. You will receive an email from GW Housing to your GW email account. Closer to move-in you will receive an additional email from GW Housing with your move-in date. Please make sure this date matches the date of your program. Any issues should be addressed right away with housing.


Will I receive more information about the program?

Yes, you will receive an email in mid-July with additional program information including check-in time and location, a schedule overview, and a packing list. We will also request additional information from you regarding your goals for the program, dietary restrictions, and other accommodations.


How will I be contacted / updated throughout the summer?

You will be contact through your GW email account. Please check this account periodically. Not only will we email you, but additional information for your upcoming year will be sent to you throughout the summer.


When do I pay the registration fee?

Fees will be charged to your student bill in the summer. 


What is included in the fee?

Meals provided included: Dinner on Saturday night; Lunch, dinner, and snacks on Sunday; Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks on Monday; And breakfast, lunch, and snacks on Tuesday. All activities provided as part of the Adventure Bound program are included in the fee.


What if I change my mind? What if I want to change trips or programs?   

If you want to cancel your registration or would like to switch to a different trip please contact [email protected] at your earliest convenience. A refund cannot be given after July 12th.


What if I have dietary restrictions? What if I have other accommodation needs?

We will email you closer to the program date to collect more information from you.  If you have concerns or have additional accommodation needs in order to make your participation more successful, please email [email protected].
