Currently all Adventure Bound trips are full and the waitlist is officially closed. All waitlist decisions will be made by July 15th. 

Adventure Bound is GW's outdoor pre-orientation program. Meet fellow first-year and new transfer students, learn more about life at GW and build lasting memories in the great outdoors. Each Adventure Bound is led by experienced student guides to help you transition to GW and college life. Plus, you will be able to move into your assigned residence hall room early! Come play outside with us! Incoming students can choose from one of four types of Adventure Bound trips. Adventure Bound is open to undergraduate students that are new to GW! Incoming transfer students can also participate in Adventure Bound.

Backpacking in Shenandoah National Park **PROGRAM IS FULL**
August 17-20, 2019 
Program Fee: $165
Sample Trip Itinerary 
Join us on one of our backpacking trips through Shenandoah National Park. This trip is open to all skill levels, no experience required. We will be sleeping in tents, cooking our own food, and carrying everything on our backs in really cool backpacking packs. We will cover approximately 10 miles per day and we have gear available for you to borrow. Experience nature outside of D.C. with mountain top summits, waterfalls, and winding trails. Discover what backpacking is and how it can foster personal growth and new relationships with your fellow GW students. To learn more about backpacking and what it entails please watch this video.

DC Exploration + Service **PROGRAM IS FULL**

Sample Trip Itinerary
Want to explore D.C.'s outdoor offerings while adjusting to city life? Experience indoor rock climbing, kayaking on the Potomac River and hiking in the outskirts of D.C. all while learning about local non-profits committed to protecting natural resources. Service activities may include river cleanup and trail maintenance. Do this all while exploring your new home and building relationships with other students and your new community. Is camping not your thing? Not a problem. You'll be staying in your residence hall! Are you unfamiliar with trail maintenance? Check out this video. International students are able to attend this trip, as it is a DC-based program and they will be excused from Adventure Bound to attend their mandatory orientation on Tuesday, August 20th from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

Ocean **PROGRAM IS FULL**

Sample Itinerary
Camp on beautiful Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake Bay! You’ll go on a kayak tour in the Bay and experience a surfing lesson in the great Atlantic Ocean. Keep your eyes open, August is the middle of dolphin season at Virginia Beach! Spend time on the beach and hiking in Virginia's most visited state park. Camp two nights with fellow GW students under the stars. You won’t have any regrets finishing your summer with us and the dolphins at Virginia Beach! Never been sea kayaking before? Whitewater **PROGRAM IS FULL**

Sample Itinerary

Make a splash in West Virginia as you rapidly get acquainted with other GW first-years and your guides. Enjoy two days traversing the thrill of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. On the first day take it easy and enjoy "whitewater" tubing down the Antietam Creek. On the second day after ripping through Class II & III rapids whitewater rafting, gather around a campfire to enjoy some s’mores and conversation with your new classmates before pitching your tent for the night. You’ll be camping near Historic Harper's Ferry and exploring the town and amazing river views on a hike before heading back to GW. Before registering, please confirm that Adventure Bound dates do not conflict with other commitments.Student participating another pre-orientation program, including SEAS Getaway or WLP, should not register for Adventure Bound. International students are only eligible to attend the DC Exploration + Service Adventure Bound trip due to their mandatory orientation. For DC Exploration + Service international students will be excused for their mandatory new international student orientation with ISO on May 20 from 10 AM-12 PM; however, students must confirm that no additional orientation or sessions are required by their school or academic program during this time.
