Student Organization Advising

Advising Model Graphic

Beginning in August 2018, the Center for Student Engagement transitioned to an individualized model of advising. This represents a shift from a model of advising wherein each organization receives a staff advisor regardless of actual need to a model that is based upon continuous evaluation and that prioritizes access, efficiency, and quality of service.  Under the individualized advising model, each organization will be evaluated based on a variety of factors and will receive support according to their individualized needs. For some organizations, that support will come in the form of an assigned staff advisor. For other organizations, the main source of support will be the Student Organization Resource Desk, which is staffed daily by trained staff advisors. By sharing the staffing responsibilities of the Desk across a large team of trained and enthusiastic staff advisors, we are able to provide a high volume of quality service to a diverse population of student organizations.

All student organizations will have full access to the Student Organization Resource Desk, [email protected], the Excellence in Leadership Seminar, and online guides. In addition to these resources, some organizations will be assigned a specific staff advisor based upon criteria such as levels of spending and programming.  Learn more about all student organization resources here.

Staff Advisors

Staff advisors provide support and guidance to your organization, its leaders, and its members on a range of topics from student organization policies and processes to conflict mediation, officer transition, fundraising, and recruitment.

Who is my staff advisor?Your organization's staff advisor is listed in your organization's OrgSync portal profile. In OrgSync, navigate to your organization's portal. If necessary, click "Home," then "Profile." Your staff advisor's name and contact information are listed at the bottom of that page. If your group does not have an assigned staff adviors, the name will read "Staff Advisor Team." This means that your organization should seek support from the Student Organization Resource Desk and [email protected]. These modes of support are staffed and monitored on a daily basis (Mon-Fri) by a large team of trained staff advisors and are designed to increase access to quality support and efficiency of service.
