Welcome Week at the George Washington University provides opportunities for students to connect, build relationships, learn about resources, and build a community at GW

With 40+ events over two weeks, Welcome Week showcases the many resources GW has to offer for academic success and features opportunities for involvement at the Mount Vernon Campus, in the performing arts, sustainability activities, multicultural student services, international student activities, student organizations, and more.

Welcome Week 2015 will begin on Saturday, August 29th and end on Saturday, September 12th. Events are being planned for you this summer, so be sure to check back often!


Saturday, August 29 (Move In)

First Night at the Mount Vernon Estate: Buses leave beginning at 5:00pm to George Washington's Mount Vernon

Class of 2019: Join your classmates at the Mount Vernon Estate, the home of America's first President, George Washington. On this special night, first year students will be welcomed to the GW Community by getting a private look at Washington's Estate. You will have the opportunity to take a tour of the mansion, explore the grounds, and learn more about the University's namesake within the museum. Other activities will include community and floor meetings, a barbecue, lawn games, and an #OnlyatGW surprise.

First Night at the Mount Vernon Estate 2015 is made possible thanks to the generous support of alumni, parents, and friends, including the Masonic Foundation of the District of Columbia, the District of Columbia Scottish Rite Foundation, Coca-Cola, Corner Bakery Cafe, the Lowe Family, Fred Mack, Steve and Lori Ross, Jeffrey and Loren Taufield, and an anonymous parent donor in honor of Leon and Leesa Wagner.

* Please note, this event is only for first year students. 

All students attending First Night at Mount Vernon Estate must have a completed and signed waiver in hand to board the bus.

Movie on the Yard- Jurassic World: Doors open at 7:30, movie starts promptly at 8 pm in University Yard

There is no better way to relax than laying under the stars on University Yard and watching a blockbuster movie with your friends!  Movie theater snacks will be provided.

Target Takeover is an exclusive GW event where Target shuts down just for GW students and is transformed into Club Target. Buses will be leaving frequently to take you and your friends from Thurston Hall, Kogan Plaza, and the Mount Vernon Campus to the Columbia Heights Target!
